This is the kind of film that we should repeat in several episodes of the television. This would delight the kids instead of animations morons. Bad surprise, It is in 4: 3 and of course in black and white (film, 1947). It wasn't useless it to be sold in blu-ray and thus more expensive! For the story is very average. French movie, quite old But the atmosphere of the life of the sisters Bronte is very well made in this thread FrenchWhy do the new when the old is very well? I had indeed watched it again before reviewing it, but it has disappointed me... the new... Three hundred years of the history of the famous palace referred to by a Sacha Guitry both storyteller and... Louis XIV (the king old) ! At the time (1954), a number of historians were howling, listing all the "errors" committed by the great Sacha. Certainly, liberties were taken, omissions and shortcuts abound... But, "Versailles" was also (and especially!) lot of assets. In spite of its three hours (the film is divided into two parts - 2 DVDS - approximately 1h30 each), the film never bored. Served by a plethora of artists (almost all the stars and celebrities of the time), he highlights beautifully the value of the castle and its park (and from the generic, narrated by Guitry himself: "The sets are of Mansart, the gardens of Le Nôtre). The technical mastery, however, is not "overwhelming" and one feels the lightness of the ballad forest by the weather, the sunshine playing among the leaves -an idea that will be resumed by the following - contrasting completely with the torrents that has befallen our three characters initial. This is only one example among many others. Of still shots showing two or three characters are a delight rare to the eyes. This film is certainly among the 100 most beautiful films in the history of cinema. Actors of legend (John Wayne and James Stewart, for the two main roles), a developer of legend (John Ford), and a scenario... what scenario. John Ford is here at the peak of his art, he manipulates the symbolism with a mastery accomplished (it is at the level of "The fantastic Ride" or "The searchers"). Here, we are far from the only and strict opposition of good and evil, it comes to interact with the opposition between the law and the law of the strongest, between the one who is in the light; and he that is in the shade. This film is also a passage, almost a passing of the baton, between the past, the present and the future, a reflection on the power of the press, a reflection on justice. Finally, behind the two main characters, this film is also a remarkable gallery of portraits, the bandit, the merchant, the sheriff, the reporter, the farm boy, the future wife of a Senator, etc, as many facets of this humanity of which John Ford has so often shown the complexity. In summary, to say that this film is a masterpiece is a no-brainer. Do not go especially not to the side, you'll grow from it..
